Recent Observation regarding interac / Debit Cards –

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:

One of my CIBC chequing account is linked to a visa Interac/Debit card and the card shows no name on it. Name field is left blank perhaps some kind of security feature, so if the card is lost or stolen account holders name would remain unknown. my bank cards (debit cards) since 1993 in my use in Canada have been linked to my chequing accounts (in USA as well since 1991 when I opened my account in Phoenix AZ during a training, a business trip from Jubail Saudi Arabia with Honeywell College.)

Occasionally I use my debit card to make payment on the web such as for phone payment in addition to POS debit purchases for groceries and other needs.

The web screen that captures the debit card information on phone service provider’s website prompts to enter the card holder name as it appears on the card but debit cards donot show a name. Perhaps the prompt is for credit card holders. For debit card transactions web site should prompt to enter the card holders name as on the linked bank account. To avoid any legal complications with the authorities or the bank.

Something to think about.
