Merchant copy and (customer) card holder copy – why they switch –

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN –

..I published this information in the past as well. A retail merchant in the neighbourhood is still doing the same. That they keep the card holder copy and give the merchant copy to card holder at the end of a interac/debit purchase transaction. I have objection to this practice because this practice has a potential of misuse or even may result in ID theft or mistaken identity.

….

I am surprised how this practice is accepted by the govt. of Canada (I wonder if govt. is even aware of this practice and its implications). I would recommend that govt. of Canada should look into this practice of merchants and find the reason behind it and also prevent this from happening. There are examples in the industry where this does not happen because they print only one receipt (customer copy) so no switching possible.
