I experienced twice on July 11 of 2019, 9pm (——— at the time of deboarding) and 11h45pm (at the time of boarding) bus route 16 (Hamilton-Union-Hamilton)

When I tapped the card on the machine it showed red light than driver pushed some buttons on the card reader and told me to try again than it showed green light. why is that so, this is not normal, I rarely experienced this red light/green light situation in the past.

Surprisingly both red light/green light situations happened at Union Station once at deboarding (roughly around 22h00 – arriving bus) and at boarding (at 23h45 – departing bus).
